SHU Names Jennifer Curran Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

FAIRFIELD, CT (August 3, 2004) - Sacred Heart University Director of Athletics Don Cook announced Tuesday the hiring of Jennifer Curran as assistant women's basketball coach for the upcoming 2004-05 season. A Danbury, CT native, Curran comes to SHU after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the University of New Haven's women's basketball program. "Jennifer is a talented, energetic coach who will help with all aspects of the growth of our basketball program," stated head coach Ed Swanson, who is entering his 15th season at the helm of the Pioneer's program. "Her Connecticut roots will be an added bonus. Playing in Danbury and in AAU basketball programs in the state along with all her ties to Connecticut basketball, she will be a tremendous resource in our recruiting efforts." While at UNH, Curran was involved in all aspects of recruiting, academic monitoring, community service, practice and game management, fundraising, marketing, and all other day-to-day functions of the Chargers basketball program. She was also responsible for scouting, compliance, strength and conditioning, and travel. During her two years at New Haven, the program won the 2003-04 regular season New York Collegiate Athletic Conference title, posted back-to-back 20 win seasons, had two-straight conference tournament semifinal appearances, as well as a berth in the 2002-03 NCAA Division II Tournament. A 2002 graduate of Brandeis University, Curran earned her degree in Arts in American Studies and also completed the school's legal studies program. While at Brandeis, she was four year-starter and two-year captain for the Judges and earned all-conference honors three times during her playing career. Named as the team's MVP as a junior and senior, Curran finished her career fourth on the school's all-time scoring list and became only the fourth player to have her number retired by the university. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
