Pioneers fall to Long Island in Three; LIU Clinches Regular Season Title

FAIRFIELD, CT (November 1, 2005) - The Sacred Heart volleyball team lost in three-straight games to Long Island Tuesday night, clinching the regular season Northeast Conference title for the Blackbirds. LIU posted wins of 30-20, 30-15 and 30-21 to improve to 8-0 in the league and earn the right to host the NEC Tournament in three weeks.

Sacred Heart was led by junior Brenda Bailey (Costa Mesa, CA) who posted nine kills, seven digs and three solo blocks. Sophomore Samantha McMillan (Manassas, VA) had 11 digs to lead the team defensively.

The Blackbirds, now 18-11 overall, were led by Jade Gold, Lizelle Jackson and Martina Wagner each with 10 kills apiece. Wagner added nine digs to her total and a block while hitting .421 (10-2-19). Gold hit .381 (10-2-21) in the match while Ivana Vasiljevic passed out 28 assists.

The Pioneers will return to the court on Saturday, November 5th when they travel to Wagner for a 4 pm start.
