FAIRFIELD, CT (December 12, 2005) - Sacred Heart junior Amanda Pape (Stamford, CT) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Pape, the league's leading scorer at 18.2 points per game, had another dynamic week for the Pioneers, leading Sacred Heart to a 2-0 conference record and extending the team's winning streak to four. The 2004 first team all-NEC all-star turned in a masterful performance against St. Francis (NY) last Wednesday, netting a season-high 26 points (two off her career-high) in the Pioneers' 69-51 at home. The Stamford, CT product, who earned NEC Rookie of the Year honor two seasons ago, hit 7-of-12 field goals in the game and drained 11-of-13 free-throws, while adding six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. On Saturday at St. Francis (PA), the 5-8 guard, who has posted double-digit points in each of her team's six games this season, guided Sacred Heart to its first win at Loretto since the 2000-01 season with a game-high 18 points. Pape also grabbed five caroms, swiped five steals and handed out five assists. While leading the NEC in scoring, Pape ranks fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage (.486), 11th in free-throw percentage (.706), seventh in rebounding (6.7) and is tied for second in steals (2.67).
SHU returns to action this Saturday, December 17th at Iona College.
