Nicolle Rubino Named Enterprise Rent-a-Car / SHU Student Athlete-of-the-Week

FAIRFIELD, CT (December 19, 2005) - Senior Nicolle Rubino (Port Jefferson Station, NY) was named Enterprise Rent-a-Car / Sacred Heart Student Athlete of the Week for the week of December 12th through 18th.
Rubino had a career night in leading the Pioneers to an 18-point second-half comeback against the Iona Gaels on Saturday night. The senior co-captain led the team with 27 points, 19 in the second half, to post the highest point total for a Pioneer thus far this year. Rubino shot a career best 11-of-17 from the field and hit five three's, tying a career mark to lead the Pioneers to their fifth-straight win. The senior co-captain was eight-of-11 in the second half, hitting three huge three's to help pull the Pioneer out of an 18 point hole and on to victory.
Her biggest play however, probably came on the defensive end when she forced a steal in the closing seconds to seal the win. Iona raced up court down one with 10 second left and tried to dump the ball inside. Rubino came off her man on the outside and came around the backside to knock the ball loose on the entry pass and corrall the loose ball at halfcourt for the win.
Rubino has been on fire of late and is now averaging 14.7 points per game and shooting an impressive 52.5% (42-80) from the field. She has a team-high nine three's with 18 assists and 17 steals.
