Final Stats
Bethlehem, PA -
Junior Leah Stoehr (Hummelstown, PA) and sophomore Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) each netted first half goals as the Pioneers held on to beat Lehigh, 2-1 in field hockey action Wednesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Sacred Heart got on the scoreboard first when Eye tallied her nation-leading 29th goal of the season. Senior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) received the ball off a penalty corner and passed the ball to Eye, whose shot trickled through Steph Palmieri's pads in the 22nd minute. The Pioneers further increased their lead six minutes later when Stoehr but home a rebound from a tough angle.
Early in the second half, Lehigh earned a golden scoring opportunity
when the Mountain Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke; however, senior
Moira Garrity's attempt was blocked by Pioneer goaltender Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA).
The Mountain Hawks finally broke through at the 52:48 mark, when
Sommerfield drove a shot off a penalty corner that slipped past Mills
into the cage. Garrity and senior Mel Lepko were credited with assists
on the play. Lehigh spent the final 18 minutes pressuring for an
equalizer, but could not slip a second goal past Mills.

in penalty corners. Palmieri made seven saves on the night for Lehigh,
while Mills set aside four shots to earn the win in goal.
