Nov. 4, 2006

Final Stats

Lock Haven, PA - The Lock Haven University field hockey team came out firing in its first ever appearance in postseason play at the Division-I level. Defending NEC Champion Sacred Heart University fell behind 5-0 before getting a goal on the board. The Lady Eagles of LHU used a 3-0 halftime lead to get its first ever NEC title, 7-1.

Sophomore Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) scored the Pioneers only goal.SHU's goalkeeper Whitney Mills (Harrisburg, PA) broke the tournament record for saves collecting 20 breaking Fairfield's Lauren Callahan's record from 2004. Eye, senior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY), and junior Jenn Howley (North Salem, NY) earned All-Tournament team honors for Sacred Heart.

Early in the contest the two teams seemed evenly matched as they both went scoreless in the first 17 minutes of the contest. 17:46 into the contest LHU's Nicole Dearden sent a shot into the circle that was tipped past the keeper by Samantha Stoyer. Less than four minutes later LHU's Mandy Daschbach picked up a rebound off a Mills save and buried it in the back of the cage.

The first half scoring would end with LHU's Sarah Huber getting a breakaway and finishing a one-on-one with SHU's keeper. Huber would get the scoring started in the second half deflecting a Renee Kemmerer shot for her second goal of the contest tying the NEC single-tournament-game record.

Stoyer would not be out-done as she would grab a rebound score for her second of the game as well. SHU would finally get on the board in the 53rd minute as Eye wrapped a shot around the LHU keeper to cut the lead to four.

LHU's Daschbach would later get her second goal of the game and the scoring would end with a shot from the top of the circle by LHU's Renee Kemmerer for the 7-1 lead.

LHU's seven goals against SHU broke the single-game team record at the NEC tournament. The previous record was held by Rider who scored four goals twice once in '03 and once in '04. LHU's nine goals in the tournament also broke the NEC record previously held by the 2004 Rider squad that scored seven.
