Lizzie Mendrzycki netted her first career goal as the Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Bucknell 2-1 in the season opener at home at Johnson Field.

After a scoreless opening frame, all goals came in the second quarter.
Bucknell scored first in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers were awarded a penalty corner sent in by
Amelia Pellegrini. Junior
Blaire Sparks set up Mendrzycki to put away her first career goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Minutes later, the Bison were also awarded a penalty corner and converted it to take a 2-1 lead, which would hold for the final score.
The Pioneers had four corners compared to Bucknell's two. SHU put pressure on the Bison in the final frame, outscoring the visitors 5-2, but Bucknell's goalkeeper came up with three clutch saves to hold off the Pios.
