Pioneers Fall at Boston College, 101-68

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Senior Jared Dudley had a game-high 20 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Boston College Eagles used strong first-half shooting to defeat the Sacred Heart University Pioneers 101-68 in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon.

Boston College, 7-2, doubled the Pioneer score at 38-19 in the first 11 minutes of the game, thanks in large part to knocking home of its first 17 shots, including five of six from three-point range. The Eagles finished the half on a 16-3 run over the last seven minutes of the half to lead 60-30 at the intermission. The 60 first-half points by BC was a Conte Forum record. Boston College shot an incredible 80 percent from the field in the half (24-30).

The Eagles showed they were human at the start of the second half, making just one of their first six shots and the Pioneers cut the lead to 66-40 on a couple of threes by Luke Granato and Drew Shubik. At the second media timeout, the Pioneers had cut the BC lead to 71-47. Senior Jarrid Frye notched his 1000th career point with a reverse layup with 11:00 left in the game. Frye is the 26th men's player in school history to reach that mark.

Junior Sean Williams and sophomore Tyrese Rice had 16 points apiece for the Eagles, while Sean Marshall added 14 and Shamari Spears 11. The Eagles finished shooting 58 percent from the field (36-62).

Frye was the only Pioneer to finish in double figures with 12 points. Freshman Chauncey Hardy finished with nine, and senior Tavio Hobson finished with a season-high seven assists. Junior Brice Brooks finished with a team-high nine rebounds. The Pioneers, who came in shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range on the season, converted just 25 percent of its attempts in the game (7-28).

The Pioneers will be in action again on Wednesday night at Harvard at 7:00 pm.
