Final Stats

WEST POINT, NY -Junior guard Jarell Brown nailed a three point basket with :02 left to give the Army Black Knights a 59-58 win over visiting Sacred Heart University in a non-conference men's basketball game Sunday afternoon.

Sacred Heart also had to play the bulk of the game without outstanding freshman guard Chauncey Hardy (Middletown, CT) who left with an injury to his right leg early in the first half.

A physical Army defense forced the Pioneers to play one of their worst halves of the season and midway through the period, the Black Knights held a 20-14 advantage, ten of those points scored by Brown.

A 10-2 run late in the half helped the Pioneers retake the lead at 24-22. A three-pointer by junior Luke Granato (Rocky Hill, CT) with 1:10 left and a jumper by Brice Brooks (Silverdale, WA) just before the buzzer helped them take a 31-28 lead at the intermission.

Senior Jarrid Frye (Queen, NY) hit the first two buckets of the second half for the Pioneers to open up their biggest lead at 35-28 with 18:10 left in the game. An 8-2 run by the Black Knights, capped by a pair of free throws by Tyrell Thompson cut the Pioneer lead to 37-36 with 13:40 left.

A basket by Corban Bates, followed by a Kenny Brewer bucket gave Army the lead back at 44-41 with 8:02 left in game. A three by Brown with 7:25 to go, put the Black Knights up 47-41. A Henley hoop with 6:20 left cut the Army lead to three, but Brown answered with 5:50 to go. Bell canned a couple of free throws with 5:14 to go and Army had its biggest lead at 51-44 and Brown extended it to nine with another hoop. He finished the game with a 24.

A pair of free throws by Frye with 2:51 to go cut the Army lead to 55-49. A Granato three with 2:18 to go cut it to three, and after a Black Knight turnover Granto buried another to tie the game at 55-55 with 2:06 left. The SHU defense then forced Army into a ten-second violation and Henley made it hurt with a layup to give the Pioneers a 57-55 lead with 1:37 left.

Walker missed on the next possession for the Black Knights, but the Pioneers committed a turnover to give it back to Army with :37 left. Walker was fouled on a second chance opportunity for Army and missed the first free throw. He made the second with :16 left to cut the Pioneer advantage to 57-56.

Granato was fouled on the inbound pass with :11 left. He made the first but missed the second. Army got the rebound and got it to Bell who raced up the court. He penetrated into the lane and kicked it back out to Brown who buried a three with :02 left to give the Black Knights the win.
