Box Score

FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior center Kibwe Trim scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, while junior Jarrid Frye had 15 points and 14 boards to lead the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team to a 57-54 win over visiting Mount St. Mary's in a Northeast Conference game Thursday night.

It was the ninth time this season Trim had at least 20 points in a game, and his 12th double-double of the season. It was Frye's fourth double dip and the third time he and Trim had accomplished it in the same game.

Sacred Heart, 10-12 overall and 7-6 in the NEC, opened up an 11-6 lead eight minutes into the game after senior Matthew Looney made one of two free throws. The Pioneers led 18-12 on a Trim layup with 6:35 to go in the first half, but a 6-0 Mount run capped by a Joey Butler jumper tied the game at 18-18 with 4:20 left.

The Pioneers outscored the Mountaineers 8-2 the rest of the way to lead 26-20 at the intermission. Trim was a one-man wrecking crew in the half with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Two quick buckets by sophomore Drew Shubik and Frye to start the half extended the Pioneer lead to its largest of the game, 30-20. The Mount, 9-14 and 7-5, rallied on a bucket by senior Landy Thompson and a trey from Mychal Kearse to get back within five.

A jumper by Markus Mitchell for the Mountaineers with 10:47 to play in the game had them within a point at 41-40, but Sacred Heart scored the next six to get some breathing room. A monster slam by Frye, off a pass from Trim on a breakaway with 5:01 left, put the Pioneers on top 49-42.

The Mount refused to go away and a three-point play by Gus Durr with 1:30 to go had the Mountaineers within a single possession at 52-49. The Pioneers turned the ball over on their next trip but Joey Butler missed a Mount jumper. A pair of free throws by Trim with :34 to go, after a foul by Kearse, gave the Pioneers a 54-49 lead.

Joey Butler nailed a quick jumper on the next Mount possession to cut the lead back to three. The Mount was forced to foul after SHU got the ball over mid court and sophomore Brice Brooks hit both free throws to extend the lead to 56-51. A Charles Cook three with :11 to play cut the Pioneer lead to two, but Shubik hit just one of two free throws to give the Mountaineers life. Trim came out from the lane to block a three-point attempt by Joey Butler with :02 left to secure the Pioneer win.

The Mount was led by Kiel Butler's 15 points, while Joey Butler added 11. The Mount's leading scorer, Landy Thompson, was held to just four points on 2 of 11 shooting. The Mountaineers shot just 37 percent from the field in the game and just 3 of 21 from three-point range.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Sacred Heart, and made them 5-1 in the NEC at home.
