Box Score

FAIRFIELD, CT - Sophomore Jeff Hanson (Woodstock, NY) drove home five runs with a pair of hits, and freshman Phil Tantillo (Blue Point, NY) had his first career-four hit game to lead the Sacred Heart University baseball team to a 14-9 win over visiting Manhattan College in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon.

Sacred Heart, 15-20, scored three in the bottom of the first off Manhattan starter Rene Guera thanks to an RBI single by Josh Enos (Paulsboro, NJ) and a two-run double by Hanson. Manhattan, 15-15, got one back in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Nick Derba that scored Rene Ruiz with an unearned run.

Manhattan closed within 3-2 with another unearned run off SHU starter Mike Milazzo (Staten Island, NY) in the top of the fourth. Mike Garcia walked, stole second and scored on a two-out error by Hanson at first. The Pioneers opened it up in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs - only two of which were earned because of two Jasper errors to lead 9-2. Enos doubled home two of the runs, while Hanson drove home another with a sacrifice fly.

Manhattan chipped away and got within two at 9-7 after a three-run sixth. Freshman Ryan Masters drove home one with a single to center. Rene Ruiz drove home another with a bunt double that went between the first and second baseman that allowed Ryan Marcoux to score all the way from second.

Sacred Heart put the game on ice with five more runs in the seventh inning. The big blow was a two-out, two-run single by Hanson.

Junior Rob Tencza picked up the win in relief for the Pioneers when Milazzo failed to get out of the fifth inning. It evened his record at 1-1. Guera took the loss for the Jaspers and dropped to 3-2.

Dom Lombardi led the Jasper attack with three hits, while Matt Rizzotti had a pair of hits and two RBI.
