Fairfield, CT -
Junior Katie Bohren (Hopewell Junction, NY) scored the go-ahead and eventual game winning goal to help Sacred Heart hand the Brown Bears their first loss of the season, 2-1, in field hockey action Wednesday afternoon at Campus Field.
After going into the locker room at halftime knotted at one apiece, and both squads sustaining the tie, Bohren came to the rescue for the Pioneers in the second half. The junior midfielder weaved through the Bears defensive alignment and blasted a shot from the middle that found the back of the net 56:07 into the game to put the Pioneers up for good.
With 24:05 on the clock in the first half, junior midfielder Leah Stoehr (Hummelstown, PA) got things started for the Pioneers when she tallied her third goal of the campaign, courtesy of a great pass from Bohren.
However, it didn't take long for the Bears to even up the score. Just over five minutes after the Pioneers drew first blood, Senior Rebecca Mondics blasted a close shot past Sacred Heart goaltender Ashley Del Greco (Merrimack, NH).
In a contest where both squads struggled to acquire good field position and failed to find a way to jumpstart an offensive rhythm, the opposing goaltenders were able to lock in and keep their respective teams in the game. Del Greco notched five saves, where Brown goalie Kristen Hodavance tallied six stops.
The Pioneers take their two-game winning streak to the University of New Hampshire Sunday afternoon to square off at 1 pm.
