Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (September 24, 2006) - Sophomore forward Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) tallied four goals to help the Sacred Heart field hockey team defeat the Monmouth Hawks, 7-0, in the first Northeast Conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Campus Field.

Senior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) got the Pioneers (7-2, 1-0) started 12:04 into the contest, when she received a corner pass from junior Leah Stoehr (Hummelstown, PA) after a penalty, and deposited her fifth goal of the campaign. Stoehr picked up her sixth assist on the year.

Sacred Heart, who out shot the Hawks 11-4 in the first half, built on their 1-0 advantage when Eye picked up a loose ball and blasted a shot past Monmouth goalkeeper Chelsea Farley with just 1:31 left until the half mark. Eye tallied her team-leading fourteenth goal of the season.

It didn't take long for Eye to inflate the Pioneer lead to 3-0, and create more of an insurance cushion in this crucial league game. With 25:04 left, the sophomore forward broke down the Monmouth defense and beat Farley once again for her fifteenth score of the campaign.

Then with 20:39 left in the match, freshman Kelsey Zeyher (Poughkeepsie, NY) scored her second goal of the year off a nice pass from junior defender Andi Coiro (Yorktown Heights, NY) to give Sacred Heart a commanding 4-0 lead.

Eye increased the advantage to 6-0, when she scored twice in less than a minute. Both goals came off rebounds from penalty corners.

Junior forward Jenn Howley (North Salem, NY) was next in line to continue the Pioneer attack as she lit up the scoreboard when she blasted a shot past Farley with 11:32 left in the contest.

Though the Pioneer offense was electric all afternoon, the defense was solid as well as they held the Hawks to just eight shots in the game.

Sacred Heart will look to build on their four-game winning streak as they take on the Yale Bulldogs in New Haven on Wednesday at 7 pm.
