Pioneer Women's Hoop Ink Four for 2008-09

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 20, 2007) - Sacred Heart University head women's basketball coach Ed Swanson announced today that four student-athletes have signed National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period. Swing Guards Alexis Campbell (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run H.S.) and Kris Iovino (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional H.S.), guard Emily Hyncik (Skillman, NJ / The Peddie School) and forward Callan Taylor (Overland Park, KS / Blue Valley North H.S.) have signed letters and will join the Pioneers in the fall of 2008.
"The keys in this recruiting class for us was to get bigger and more athletic at the swing guard and forward position and we have added some versatility at both forward spots as well," stated Swanson. "They each fit the mold of what we look for in a complete student-athlete."
Campbell, a 5-9 guard/forward, is from Ashburn, Virginia and Broad Run High School. Campbell led her team to the 2006-07 Dulles District Virginia League Championship game as a junior and was named a Virginia High School League Region II AA All-Regional player. She was named the 2006 Cheer Sports Basketball Player of the Game and to the Cheer Sports All-Tournament team. Campbell has also excelled off the court as well, earning the 2006-07 Athletic Achievement District Player of the Year award as well as Dulles District AA All-Academic honors for achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher. Broad Run High School honored her as well with their Certificate of Special Recognition for Academic Excellence in 2007. She was also a member of the Minority Student Achievement Committee for Participation in the Sister program in 2005-2006.
Iovino, a 5-11 guard/forward, is from Murrysville, Pennsylvania where she attends Franklin Regional High School. Iovino has started for the school's varsity team since her freshman season and has garnered all-tournament team and MVP of the Keystone Oaks Tournament. She was listed at one of the top-20 players in the Western PA Invitational. She was an all-section first team player as a sophomore and a junior. Academically, she was the recipient of her school's Spanish Award as a freshman and awarded the Student-Athlete of the Month award.
Hyncik is a 5-11 guard from Skillman, New Jersey and out of The Peddie School. Hyncik was a first team All-Prep and Newark Star Ledger All-Prep player as a junior helping her team win the Prep "A" State Championship. She was also named to the All-Mercer County second team last season. As a sophomore at Montgomery High School, she was named first team All-Skyland Conference and second team All-Somerset County. She finished the season winning the Tracy Kraut Coaches Award for Best Work Ethic. This year's team, winners of 11-straight N.J. Prep `A' crowns and nine-straight Mid-Atlantic Prep League titles, is ranked 24th in the FCP Preseason National Top-25. Her brother Adam was a 2007 graduate of Lehigh University where he played basketball and her brother Christopher is currently playing football at the University of Delaware.
Taylor is a 6-1 forward from Overland Park, Kansas and Blue Valley North High School. A three-year member of the school's varsity basketball team, Taylor has averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds per game over the past two seasons. She has helped guide her team to two Kansas 6-A State Tournament appearances, including a third place finish in 2006. Taylor was selected the Kansas City Star Sophomore Player of the Year for the Kansas region of metropolitan Kansas City and was the only sophomore selected to the EKL All-Conference first team. As a junior, she was named second team All-Metro Kansas City and for the second year received Kansas 6-A All-State recognition. She also competes for her school's soccer team. Academically, Taylor is an honors student who was recently selected as Scholar-Athlete of the Week in Kansas City.
