Baseball Loses at Manhattan, 12-4

April 17, 2007

Box Score

RIVERDALE, NY - Poor defense jumped up and bit the Sacred Heart baseball team Tuesday at Manhattan as Chris Zaccherio was charged with eight unearned runs in one inning, helping the Jaspers to a 12-4 win over the visiting Pioneers.

Jared Balbach started on the mound for the Pioneers and pitched three scoreless innings, leaving with a 1-0 lead.

The first batter in the fourth for Manhattan against Zaccherio reached on a fielding error. Zaccherio retired the next batter, but the third reached on a dropped pop up to the Pioneer third baseman. The Pioneer freshman hurler would allow four hits after that, including a pair of home runs, but all eight runs in the inning would be unearned.

Junior Jeff Hanson continued his hot hitting for the Pioneers, finishing with a pair of hits, including his fourth homer of the season. He raised his season average to a team-best .390 with 27 RBI.
