Bridgeport, CT- Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, MN) made 24 saves as the Sacred Heart women's hockey team defeated Connecticut College 4-0 Monday afternoon. Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) led the Pioneer attack with two goals and Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) tallied three assists. The win brings the Pioneers NCAA record back to .500 at 11-11-2.

Sacred Heart (11-11-2) struck first with the lone goal of the first period as Fontaine capitalized on an Arnone centering pass sent in from the left circle. Later in the period Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) sent a screaming slap shot from the blue line that knocked over a Camel defender in front of the net. The Pioneers were unable to put in the rebound and settled for a 17-9 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard at the first intermission.

The second period featured balanced action as both sides traded momentum back and forth and committed just one penalty. The Camels had the best scoring chance of the frame after an Abby Hine wrist shot caromed away from Nagel. Caroline Jeffery corralled the rebound and had a shot at an open right sight of the net but missed wide, preserving the shutout.

Fontaine extended the Sacred Heart lead four minutes into the third period as she notched her second marker of the game with assists from Arnone and Kristina Feltz (Edison, NJ). Feltz scored her second goal of the season as she fired a backhand from the slot past Camel goaltender Sara Christopher. Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) notched the Pioneers final tally of the day on an unassisted goal that developed after recovering her own rebound.

Sacred Heart outshot Connecticut College 53-24 as Nagel earned her second shutout of the season. The freshman standout goaltender has an 11-9-2 record this season and is closing in on the SHU single season save record. The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow night as they welcome the Wesleyan Cardinals to the Wonderland of Ice at 7:00 pm.
