Box Score (Fairfield, CT) - Karly Duven and Stephanie
Fazio both scored and Kim Stow stopped all
seven shots she faced, as the Sacred Heart Pioneers shutout the
Holy Cross Crusaders 2-0 for their first win of the season Sunday
afternoon at Campus Field.
Duven (Freehold, NJ) put the Pioneers on the board first at the
19:21 mark, picking up a loose ball outside the arc and dribbling
in for the shot and an unassisted second goal of the year.
She nearly scored again with about eight minutes left in the second
half, rushing from near midfield to get a shot on, but Holy Cross
goalkeeper Kelly Sotsky came far out to challenge the shot and make
the stop. Chelsea Carlson
(Peterborough, NH) shot off the rebound, but it was blocked away by
the defense.
However, Fazio (Nowwalk, CT) gave Sacred Heart an insurance goal
at the 65:51 mark, taking a pass from Carlson and fighting her way
near the goal line to poke in her second goal of the season.
Stow (Norwalk, CT) made five saves in the first half, stopping
Holy Cross's best chance with consecutive saves on Kara Gonnerman
just past the 31:00 mark, kicking out the initial shot and the
follow-up rebound.
The Pioneers are next in action Friday night when the travel to
Drexel for a 7:00 p.m. game.
