Pioneers Topple the Mount 72-54

Fairfield, Conn.—Kiley Evans' season-high 19 points helped lead the Pioneers to their eighth conference win over Mount St. Mary's. In the 72-54 victory, senior Callan Taylor picked up her fiftieth career double-double.
Despite Taylor (Overland Park, Kan.) and Blair Koniszewski (Vienna, Va.) putting up four early points for the Pioneers, Mount managed a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
A trey by Taylor with at the 14:26 mark kick-started the offense sending Sacred Heart on a 19-2 run to give the Pioneers a 23-12 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.
Sacred Heart added to their lead in the second half. Senior Alexis Campbell (Ashburn, Va.) started the second half with a jumper.
Koniszewski, getting her first collegiate start, hit back-to-back threes, Sacred Heart had a nearly six-minute scoring hiatus due to a nine-point run by Mount St. Mary's
The Mount got going again, chipping away at their deficit to bring it to just nine points inside the 13-minute mark forcing Sacred Heart into a timeout.
"This was a statement game for us," said Head Coach Ed Swanson. "Were we going to feel sorry for ourselves or come back and win?"
Win they did, by18 points. At the final buzzer, it was 72-54 Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers had three players finish with double-digits points. In addition to Evans' 19, Taylor tallied 18 and Koniszewski totaled 12.
Sacred Heart finishes up the four-game home stand on Monday, when they take on the 2-18 Wagner Seahawks.
