JERSEY CITY, NJ (March 20, 2012) - The Sacred Heart Pioneers got back into the win column on Monday afternoon, posting a 6-1 win at Saint Peter's. The Pioneers improved to 5-6 in dual matches with the win.
SHU swept all three double matches and won at #2 through #6 singles to take the match. Seniors Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) won 8-3 at #1 doubles over Alex Livingston and Joniesa Williams. Sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) posted an 8-1 win over Jemial Brady and Jessica Nowogrodzki at #2.
The freshmen duo of Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) and Haley Dubits (Andover, NJ) closed out the sweep at #3 with an 8-6 win over Ivana Grbelta and Vanessa Vogel.
Rydzewski won at #2 singles, 6-1 and 6-0 over Williams. Donnelly posted a 6-1 and 6-2 win over Grbelta at #3 and Chao won 6-2 and 6-4 over Brady at #4. Downing and senior Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) closed out the win at #5 and #6. Downing won 6-1 and 6-2 over Nowogrodzki while Legenza rebounded from a 6-1 loss in set one to win 6-1, 10-8.
The Pioneers return home to play host to Fairfield on Wednesday and Providence on Sunday.
