(Manhattan, KS) – Kansas State University completed a three-game sweep of the Sacred Heart Baseball team with a 7-0 win over the Pioneers Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats scored the game's first run in the third on an RBI single by Jared King, who went 4 for 5 on the day. KSU broke it open in the fifth inning, scoring for runs in the frame. The big blow came off the bat of Tanner Witt, who delivered a two-run triple into the right field corner after the first two batters.  After a walk to the next batter, Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) would take over for Pioneer starter Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT), who ended his day throwing 4+ innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits.

Sacred Heart's offense was stifled throughout the day by Wildcat pitching, scattering only three hits on the afternoon. Hunter Phillips (Monroe, CT), Dan Perez (Seymour, CT), and Kenny Byram (Ponte Verde, FL) tallied a single each in the game. The Pioneers' best scoring opportunity came in the sixth inning, when Phillips singled, followed by a walk to Murphy. The bases would be loaded after a dropped third strike would get away from the catcher, allowing Perez to reach first.  However, SHU could not push across a run.

Kansas State closed out the scoring in the seventh inning, scoring two more runs on three hits. The first two batters reached and would advance on a sac bunt, and were both driven in by a two-run single from Blair DeBord.

The Pioneers continue the season heading to Manhattan to play the Jaspers in a midweek affair.  Sacred Heart will then head to Smithfield, RI over the weekend to take on NEC rival Bryant in a four-game series.
