FAIRFIELD, CT (October 6, 2013) - The Sacred Heart field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting Lock Haven University Sunday afternoon on Campus Field.  The Pioneers drop their final non-conference game to fall to 4-7 heading into the start of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule next week.

The Lady Eagles (10-2) picked-up their seventh straight victory and improved to 10-2 on the season.  Juniors Nakira Downes and Taylor Kennedy each scored a pair of goals to lead Lock Haven.  

The Pioneers had a chance at an early lead as a blasted shot by r-sophomore Liz Bergman (Blandon, PA) was redirected by sophomore Christine Mace but LHU goalkeeper Elaina White turned it away with her blocker.  Downes opened Sunday's scoring in the 16th minute as she got loose on a break away and beat Pioneer goalkeeper Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) one-on-one.  

The Pioneers would keep the Lady Eagles off the scoreboard for the rest of the first half but were out shot 7-2 over the first 35 minutes.  Kennedy notched her first of the afternoon in the 47th minute, coming off a penalty corner.  The Lady Eagles held a 17-8 edge on penalty corners in the win.  Lock Haven's third goal came on another break away as Downes finished off a feed from Kennedy in the 56th minute.

Lock Haven closed out the scoring in the 66th minute as Kennedy blasted one past Altepeter off a Kelly Harsh pass on a penalty corner.

Altepeter finished iwht six saves while Lock Haven keeper Elaina White made four saves in earning the win.

The Pioneers open the MAAC schedule next Sunday, October 13th at Quinnipiac.  Game time is scheduled for 12 noon.
