FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 3, 2013)—Despite four Pioneers reaching double-digit scoring, the Sacred Heart women's basketball team fell 86-62 to Iona Tuesday night in the William H. Pitt Center. Adaysha Williams (LaCrosse, Wis.), Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) and Alissa Tarsi (Clinton, N.J.) all posted a team-high 11 points. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-4.
Senior Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Tarsi both flirted with double-doubles in the loss. Norman tallied 10 points and six assists, while Tarsi added seven rebounds to her 11 points.
Sacred Heart put the first points on the board with Tarsi and Williams combining for four. That was the only lead the Pioneers would get for the remainder of the game as the Gaels quickly answered with a 10-point run.
SHU managed to tie the game at 19 with 8:42 left in the first half on a jumper from Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, Penn.), but that was as close at it got as Iona instantly went on a nine-point run.
This weekend the Pioneers head west to play in the ASU Classic. On Saturday they face host-school Arizona State, then will play Long Beach State or Harvard on Sunday before returning home.
