Box Score

HEMPSTEAD, NY (September 8, 2013) - The Sacred Heart field hockey team jumped out to a 1-0 lead at Hofstra but couldn't hold on as the Pride scored three unanswered for a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers drop their second-straight and even their record at 2-2 on the year.

The Pioneers (2-2) grabbed the quick lead, jumping on the scoreboard just over six minutes in to play.  Sophomore Rachel Claroni (Hershey, PA) delivered SHU a 1-0 lead scoring on a penalty corner.  Claroni took a feed from teamate Christine Mace (Norwalk, CT) and ripped a shot into the left corner.

The Pride (2-3) tied the game up in the 28th minute when Holly Andrews converted on a penalty stroke for her first goal of the season.  Hofstra held a 15-4 advantage in the first half on shots while SHU goalkeeper Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) made five of her eight saves in the first half.

Hofstra kept the offensive pressure on in the second half, outshooting SHU 12-1 en route to a pair of second half markers.  Claudia Marin Samper gave the Pride the lead just under three minutes into the second half when she buried a feed from Jonel Boileau on a 2-on-1 break.

Boileau then provided some insurance in the 43rd minute, scoring her third of the season, unassisted.

The Pioneers will host La Salle on Friday night, September 13th for their 2013 home opener.  Game time is scheduled for 7 pm on Campus Field.
