Fairfield, Conn - The home opener for Sacred Heart University Wrestling was spoiled by Virginia Military Institute, as the Keydets won 8 of 10 bouts. The dual meet started at 125 lbs. where Dalton Henderson recorded a fall over Joe Harris (Massapequa Park, NY), giving VMI a 6-0 lead. Michael Flora followed with a 9-0 major decision over Kyle Brady (South Plainfield, NJ) at 133 lbs.

At 141 lbs, Emmitt Kelly notched a 5-2 decision over Andrew Polidore (Wayne, NJ). VMI kept the momentum going with a 7-2 decision by Shabaka Jones at 149.

Casey Mitchell (South Windsor, CT) got the Pioneers on the board with a 4-1 decision at 157 lbs. The Pioneers could not pick up any steam as Jon Scheidegger (Newton, NH) dropped a 7-5 decision to Mark Darr. VMI followed that with a 10-4 win by Timmy Davison at 174 lbs.

Zach Moran (Columbia, CT) provided a spark with a third period pin, but the Pioneers failed to generate any momentum as Andrew Embree and Juan Adams both picked up falls to end the dual meet.

Sacred Heart returns to action on Friday, January 17^th when they take on Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
