Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 18, 2014)—Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) posted a double-double with a match-leading 13 kills and 16 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team fell to Bryant 3-1 Saturday afternoon in the Chase Athletic Center. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-4 against Northeast Conference opponents this season.
Rookie Lila Palmer (Cypress, Texas) recorded her second double-double of her career tying her career-high of 10 kills, and tallying 12 digs.
After the Bulldogs took the first two sets 25-16 and 25-23, the Pioneers dominated the third set. Bryant took the set's first point, but three kills from Katie Direnzo (Shelton, Conn.) and Kemper put SHU on top. The Bulldogs worked their way back, tying the game at nine on a SHU service error, but Kemper tipped the scales back in the Pioneers' favor with a kill sparking Ana Gonzalez's (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) nine-point service run. Ultimately, it was Kemper who sent down the final kill awarding Sacred Heart the set 25-19.
The Pioneers couldn't carry the momentum and Bryant ended up clinching the match with the 25-18 fourth-set win.
The Pioneers continue the road trip tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. where they face in-state rival Central Connecticut State.
