Fairfield, Conn. – After wrapping up the regular season last weekend, a trio of Sacred Heart women's volleyball players were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Thursday. Leading the trio was sophomore libero Miliani Villarreal who was named to the All-Conference Second Team while two teammates were slotted on the All-Rookie team, Ryleigh Short and Abbie Hagedorn.
Villarreal, who was the MAAC Rookie of the Year a season ago, earns her second postseason accolade after securing Libero of the Week distinction six times during the regular season. The defensive specialist wrapped up her second year on the court with 555 digs for an average of 4.78 per set, both of which are second most in the conference.
Along the way, Villarreal set a new single-match school record for a five-set match with 40 digs on the road at Siena. In addition, she broke her own single season school record with her 555 total digs and surpassed the 1,000-dig plateau in just two campaigns.
Two rookie outside hitters, Short and Hagedorn finished first and second on the team, respectively, offensively. Short closed out her first season with 375 kills fir ab average if 3.23 per set. In addition, she added s6 assists, 32 service aces and was third on the team with 306 digs. Hagedorn also passed the 300 mark in kills with 309 on the year for a 2.66 per-set average, while also leading the team with 43 service aces and finishing second in digs with 307. Combined, the two rookie also accounted for 77 total blocks.
The SHU women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2025 campaign with an 11-19 overall record and an 8-10 mark in MAAC play.
