The Northeast Conference (NEC) today unveiled its most comprehensive basketball television package to date with a league-record tying 30 games to air this coming season. The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team will appear three times and the women's basketball team will have two appearances.
The Pioneers first appearance on the NEC television package will be a rematch of the 2014 NEC Women's quarterfinals, on January 17th, when SHU visits Saint Francis U for a 1:00 p.m. game on ESPN3. The league has a women's wildcard game on February 23rd which will feature an intriguing playoff matchup selected once the season has begun.
Every telecast in the NEC's 2014-15 television package will be distributed nationally in some form, giving the Conference its broadest reach in the 34-year history of the league.
Among the highlights:
- The 30-game package is the league's biggest in 11 years and matches the most games televised in conference history.
- Every single game will air nationally on either ESPN, CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) or Fox College Sports (FCS).
- ESPN will carry 20 games in total, including 10 women's contests on ESPN3, a record for the Conference.
- The schedule features 18 prime time games.
- Longtime NEC regional partner MSG will broadcast eight games, including three NEC men's tournament contests.
- Seven NEC Tournament games will be televised on a variety of networks.
- All NEC television games will be broadcast in HD.
"It's an exciting time for NEC basketball as evidenced by this record-tying 30-game national and regional television package," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "Our continued partnership with ESPN and access to their multiple platforms as well as our relationship with CBS Sports Network will allow our fans around the country to enjoy NEC basketball. For those games not aired nationally, our fans always have free access to our state-of-the art digital network, NEC Front Row."
The NEC has also enhanced its relationship with ESPN3. ESPN3 is ESPN's live multi-screen sports network, a destination that delivers thousands of global sports events annually and accessible online via WatchESPN.com, on smart phones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members and on Apple TV and Roku. ESPN3 will once again be the exclusive home to NEC women's basketball this winter with 10 games on the docket, a record number for the Conference.
