Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart women's basketball team opens the 2014-15 season at Iona Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m. The Gaels picked up their first win Friday, 72-51, in their season opener against Fordham.
Series Notes... Iona leads the all-time series 2-6.
- Iona took home the 86-62 win in their last meeting on December 3, 2013 in the William H. Pitt Center
- Their first five meetings came in the Division II era. The Pioneers only managed to take one of those contests and dropped four to the Gaels including the 1979 EAIAW Northeast District Championship
- Each team has collected at least one win since joining the Division I ranks - Sacred Heart squeezed out its only DI victory against Iona 79-78 on December 17, 2005
SHU Against the MAAC... Sacred Heart is 20-24 all-time against MAAC opponents
- The Pioneers went 1-2 last year against the MAAC with an overtime win over Saint Peter's (76-73), and losses to Siena (58-53) and Iona (86-62)
- SHU has faced Manhattan (2-3), Fairfield (5-9), Iona (2-6), Rider (2-0), Saint Peter's (7-4), and Siena (3-3). They have not played against Canisus, Loyola, Marist or Niagara.
The Head Coaches... Jessica Mannetti took over the Sacred Heart wom- en's basketball program at the start of the 2013-14 season. In her first season with the Pioneers, she led the team to a 12-18 record, including overtime battles with Big East members Villanova and St. John's, and a sixth place finish in the Northeast Conference with a 9-9 league record... Iona College announced the appointment of Billi Godsey as the seventh head coach of the women's basketball program in May of 2012. Godsey spent the previous two seasons as an assistant at Virginia Tech. Prior to Tech, Godsey served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UMBC for three seasons. During the 2010-11 campaign, the Retrievers finished 20-12 earning the America East regular season championship and a berth into the Women's NIT.
