Hannah Kimmel of the Sacred Heart women's basketball team earns her first Choice Hotels NEC weekly award of the season after averaging 22.5 points per game in a pair of Pioneer wins last weekend.
After the veteran small forward delivered a double-double in a runaway win over Division II opponent Bridgeport, Kimmel's clutch performance powered the Pioneers to a 59-58 victory over America East member Maine. Kimmel poured in a career-high 28 points, including the game-winning bucket with 00:05 remaining, to help Sacred Heart remain undefeated (3-0) on the season. The Empire State product scored five points over the final 1:00 of the one-point win. Her traditional 3-point play erased a two-point deficit with 00:45 left, but Maine answered back to take a 58-57 lead with 00:32 remaining and set the stage for Kimmel's last-second heroics. Kimmel, who made five 3-pointers and went 7-for-8 from the line against the Black Bears, also came up with six rebounds and three steals. Earlier in the week, she scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down 10 boards as the Pioneers more than doubled up Bridgeport. Kimmel also made three steals and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe during the 84-41 triumph.
