WALLINGFORD, CONN. (November 9, 2014)—Amanda Tyrrell (Selden, N.Y.) led the Sacred Heart bowling team to a fourth place finish at the first Northeast Conference meet of the season at Wallingford Bowl this weekend. The Pioneers went 4-3 in team games as Tyrrell finished atop all players averaging 215.86. Sophomore Lauren Hoffman (Monroe Township, N.J.) rounded out the Top 5 on the individual list averaging 202.43.
The Pioneers started Saturday with a pair of wins, defeating newest NEC member Caldwell 1024-608 and Adelphi 1002-917. SHU suffered its only Saturday loss at the hands of the defending NEC Champion Saint Francis U Red Flash 967-904, before rounding out the day with an 866-797 win over LIU Brooklyn.
No teams were undefeated going into Sunday, but SHU, Fairleigh Dickinson and SFU led the pack at 3-1.
After their great start on Saturday, the Pioneers went 1-2 on Sunday. They got their only win of the day against the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn 1110-875 in the first match of the day, but dropped a heartbreaker to Kutztown 951-943 in the second. With both the Pioneers and the Golden Bears finishing the meet 4-3, this match was the tiebreaker that placed SHU fourth in the standing and boosted Kutztown to third.
This was the first of three conference meets of the season. The combined win-loss record from those three meets determines the regular season standings and Championship Tournament seeding.
