FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart wrestling team earned a lone forfeit victory at 174 pounds Sunday night, falling to the Bucknell Bison, 36-6 at the Pitt Center. SHU falls to 2-10 on the season, while Bucknell improves to 8-10.
Sacred Heart opened the match with a forfeit at 125 pounds, and it did not get much better from there for the Pioneers. The Bison got things rolling with back-to-back decision victories from Grim Gonzalez and Connor Lapresi. Freshman Kyle Brady recorded a couple of escapes but a reversal and takedown in the third period earned Gonzalez the win.
At 149 pounds, Freshman Brendan Goldup (Schuylerville, NY) hung tough with fellow freshman Victor Lopez, but fell 8-7 due to a riding time advantage for Lopez. At 184, Rory Bonner initiated a reversal in the third period to gain a 4-2 decision over freshman Jon Scheidegger (Newton, NH).
Bucknell closed out the Pioneers in grand fashion, recording pin victories at both 197 and the heavyweight. Tyler Lyster earned a pine at 5:09, while Joe Stolfi pinned Dan Hayden (East Islip, NY) at 2:42.
