ALTOONA, PA (March 22, 2014)—The Sacred Heart bowling team was eliminated from the 2014 Northeast Conference Championship Saturday afternoon. After falling to Fairleigh Dickinson 4-1 in the first round of the double-elimination tournament, the Pioneers fell to tournament host and No. 1 seeded Saint Francis U 4-2 in the second round.
Sacred Heart started the day off with a 209-193 win over the perennial favorite Knights in the best of seven baker match, but couldn't keep the momentum rolling and dropped the next four (199-185, 226-158, 243-197, 214-210).
Switching up the lineup in the second round, the Pioneers managed to take two from the Red Flash. After splitting the first two games—winning the first 205-139 and losing the second with their best game of the day 236-232—Sacred Heart picked up its final win of the day 217-194.
The Pioneers will head to Reno, Nev. for the chance at a national title at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship April 17-19.
