WINTER HAVEN, FL (March 8, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team split the final day of the Rebel Games. Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) shut out the Saint Peter's Peahens 4-0 in the day's early game, but the Pioneers fell to Utah Valley 3-2 in eight innings in the final game. SHU finishes the Rebel Games 5-3 and comes home with a 5-5 overall record.

Mallory improves to 2-1-1 for the season tossing a shutout against the Peahens, only allowing Saint Peter's four hits while striking out two batters. The Pioneers got on the board first in the second inning thanks to Justine Sibthorp's (Santa Clarita, Calif.) solo homerun. SHU scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings on wild pitches, before Jade Bowins (Frederick, Md.) knocked in the final run with an RBI single in the seventh.

Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) struck out nine Utah Valley batters, but got the loss in the eight-inning game. The Wolverines got on the board with two runs in the top of the first innings. The Pioneers got on the board in the sixth thanks to an RBI walk by Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.).  Jessica Schild (East Northport, N.Y.) scored Sacred Heart's second run of the inning on a wild pitch after getting the call to pinch run for Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.). The score remained tied at the end of seven forcing the international tie-breaker rule to go into effect in the eighth. Utah Valley scored the tie-breaker runner for the win in the top of the inning.

Next weekend, the Pioneers are scheduled to play Holy Cross and Stony Brook in the Stony Brook Invitational.
