FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University softball team head coach
Pam London debuted the team's 2026 schedule this morning, just about two months away from opening day.
The Pioneers have 55 games on the schedule for the upcoming season, 20 of which will be at home and 35 will take place at a road or neutral site. The 2026 campaign will be the Pios' second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and will feature 28 league games.
Coach London is excited to start the new campaign after seeing the work the team has put in during the offseason. "This team has worked hard this fall and challenged themselves and each other to do hard things," said London. "I am proud of their effort and I'm especially proud of the leadership that our seniors have shown. This team has the ability to do some very good things this season, and I am excited to watch them chase their dreams!"
SHU kicks off its campaign in the Palmetto State as a part of Charleston Southern's Lowcountry Classic. The first contest of the tournament will see the Pioneers battle Akron at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. The Pios will then meet the hosting Buccaneers at 3 p.m. before battling UMass and Penn on Valentine's Day. A second battle against UMass on Sunday, Feb. 15, marks the end of Sacred Heart's time in South Carolina.
After some time back on the East Coast, the Pioneers head west for the Capital City Classic, hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. SHU kicks off the event on Friday, Feb. 27, against Nevada. The Pios then play San Jose State and Sacramento State on Saturday, Feb. 28, in the state's capital before wrapping things up against Santa Clara and UC Davis on Sunday, Mar. 1, at UC Davis.
Before flying back to Connecticut, Sacred Heart will remain in California for a double header against Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif. on Mar. 3. The California swing for the Pios will be a good early-season test, as Santa Clara and Saint Mary's split last season's West Coast Conference (WCC) Title and Nevada tallied an impressive 41 wins a year ago on the way to a Mountain West regular-season championship.
Sacred Heart hits the ground running when they get back to the East Coast, welcoming Siena for a weekend MAAC series at Pioneer Park on Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 7-8. A road doubleheader at Hofstra on Wednesday, Mar. 11, follows the Saints series, while the Pios return to league play the following weekend with three games against Canisius on Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 14-15.
The Pioneers start the following week with nonconference games at Stony Brook (Mar. 17) and at home versus Harvard (Mar. 18). The week closes with a road series against Manhattan on Mar. 21-22 before SHU then plays a twin bill against Yale on Wednesday, Mar. 25.
Road series at Niagara (Mar. 28-29) and UMass Lowell (Mar. 31) conclude March, while the Pioneers begin April at home against Merrimack (Apr. 3-4).
SHU welcomes Fairfield (Apr. 11-12), Rhode Island (Apr. 15) and Iona (Apr. 21) to close out the regular-season home slate. The Pios' road-heavy April features trips to Marist (Apr. 7), Mount St. Mary's (Md.) (Apr. 18-19), FDU (Apr. 23), Central Connecticut State (Apr. 29) and Quinnipiac (May 1-2).
The Pioneers eye their second consecutive trip to the MAAC Championship Tournament, which will take place from Wednesday to Saturday, May 6-9. The regular-season champion will host the six-team event.
