FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 12, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team was swept by Bryant Saturday afternoon dropping game one of the doubleheader 4-3 before falling in the second game 5-0.

The Bulldogs got four quick runs off of SHU starter Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.), two in the first and two more in the second, before Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) came in in relief and shut down Bryant for 5.2 innings.

Wentworth's strong pitching performance gave the Pioneers a chance, but they could only manage three runs. Three consecutive singles in the bottom of the second and a sac fly from Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) spelled two runs for the SHU, and Annie Dreher's single in the third knocked in leadoff batter Andrea Sidor (North Vancouver, BC) for the final run of the game.

Sacred Heart only got one hit off of Bryant's Elle Madsen, who pitched two complete games Saturday, through six innings of the second game. Down 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) ripped a single into right field, and Justin Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, Calif.) came up behind her with a double off the centerfield fence, but neither runner would cross the plate as Madsen got the final batter to strike out.

Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the loss in the second game, giving up four runs on seven hits. The rookie showed her potential, however, striking out four batters.

The Pioneers are still looking for their first Northeast Conference win tomorrow when the Robert Morris Colonials come to town for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
