FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 21, 2014)—Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) racked up a career high 10 strike outs through eight innings of work, but still got the loss Monday evening as the Sacred Heart softball team fell to Army 3-2. Freshman Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, while classmate Andrea Sidor (North Vancouver, British Columbia) went 2-for-3 scoring both of the Pioneers' runs.

After allowing the Black Knights one run in the first inning, Carlson calmed down in the circle retiring 18 of the next 21 batters she faced. Overall, the rookie gave up just three runs on seven hits. She got into trouble in the top of the eighth, as Army took advantage of the only walks Carlson issued all day, and gave up the two winning runs.

Sidor led off the first inning with a double before Jade Bowin's (Frederick, Md.) sacrifice bunt moved her to third and Annie Dreher's (Saugus, Calif.) sac-fly to deep center field drove her home.

The Pioneers threatened with runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings, but were unable to get runners across the plate.

Down two runs in the bottom of the eighth, Sidor led off the inning with a hot shot up the middle for a base hit. Pinch-hitting, Linsey DeDeomenico (Northford, Conn.) came up big with a single down the third base line before Dreher ripped a stand-up double to the right-center fence to score Sidor. But the next three batters went down in order to end the game.

SHU is back in action on the road tomorrow at Siena for a doubleheader that will begin at noon.
