Results
The Sacred Heart University swim team went 1-2 in a quad meet hosted by Iona College on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers earned their first win of the year, defeating NEC opponent Saint Francis Brooklyn 145.5-58.50. SHU fell to league rival Wagner, 159-71 and host Iona, 139-75. The Pioneers are 1-3 on the year and 1-2 against league opponents.
A first and second place finish in the 100 freestyle highlighted the Pioneers day. Olivia Decas touched first in a time of 55.64, while Caliegh Dion was second at 56.36
Sacred Heart travels to Holy Cross in 14 days for a dual meet.
The Distance Events
Jillian Crosby finished second on the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:23.78, coming from nearly two seconds behind in the final 150 yards to pass an Iona swimmer, touching her out by .06 seconds
Nicole Sauve finished sixth in the 500 free, 5:32.63 and seventh in the 1,000 free (11:29.07)
The Strokes
Siobhan Goodman earned a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, going 2:22.47.
Jessica Poole earned a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke , going 2:33.51 – almost three seconds faster than last week.
Poole placed sixth in the 200 individual medley, at 2:18.70.
Sprint Freestyle
Crosby placed second in the 200 freestyle at 1:59.23, shaving more than two seconds off of her time from the opening day dual meet.
Decas picked up a second place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching at 25.17.
The Relays
Anna Brown, Poole, Goodman and Emily Shenk combined for a 400 medley relay time of 4:17.70, placing fifth overall
Renee Russo, Dion, Crosby and Decas touched third in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing at 3:48.63
