Box Score CONWAY, S.C. (February 22, 2015)—Senior Kate Nadler was named to the Chanticleer Challenge All-Tournament Team. Through four games of the tournament, Nadler went 3-for-10 with a double and a homerun, and scored two runs. She was perfect in the field with eight assists and two put outs as the Sacred Heart softball team lost all four games of the tournament culminating in Sunday's 9-1 loss to Bucknell.
The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead. Nadler led off the inning reaching base on a throwing error by the Bison's shortstop. After being bumped around the bases thanks to a single from classmate Jenn Robillard and another Bucknell fielding error, SHU's cleanup hitter Kelyn Fillmore hit a fly ball to deep centerfield allowing Nadler to tag-up and score. That was as much as the Pioneers' offense could muster though as Bucknell shut down the lineup mowing down batters in order for the next four innings.
Jamie Carlson got the start for SHU. The Corona, Calif. native held the Bison to just one run through the first four innings off Erin Cox's solo homerun, which led off the second inning. In five innings of work, the sophomore struck out six Bucknell batters. The Bison bats came alive in the top of the fifth scoring four more runs off the SHU starter. After Meghan Kovac's three-run shot over the left field wall, Carlson calmed down to get two ground outs to end the inning.
Senior Kacie Wentworth came out in the sixth inning to close out the game in the circle, but couldn't limit the Bucknell offense who worked her for four runs for a decisive win.
Sacred Heart is back in action next weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational.
