Box Score 2 KISSMMEE, FL (March 7, 2015)—After one of their best days of the young season picking up two wins yesterday, the Sacred Heart softball team was blanked by both Lehigh, 5-0, and Northern Illinois, 1-0, Saturday concluding play in the Rebel Games.
Sophomore Victoria D'Addario went 1-for-2 with a double against the Mountainhawks in the Pioneers' first game of the day, as Kacie Wentworth got her sixth loss of the season after getting the start in the circle for SHU. Lehigh clinched the game with a five-run third inning, using two singles, two doubles and a homerun to do so. Jamie Carlson came in in relief with one out in the third and nobody on, and effectively shut down the Mountainhawks for the rest of the game. The Pioneer bats were quiet, as SHU was only able to put three runners in scoring position, and never advanced a runner past second base.
Adrianna Mallory gave up just five hits pitching a complete game against the Huskies, but is still in the hunt for her first win of the season. Northern Illinois got back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the fourth inning, before a fielders choice bumped both runners into scoring position. A second consecutive fielders choice drove in the game's only run before Mallory was able to get out of the inning. The Pioneers threatened in five out of seven innings, but again were unable to get a runner past second base and left a total of 17 runners on base between the two games. Lauren Delgadillo and Katie Nadler both collected two singles each against the Huskies accounting for four of SHU's six hits in the game.
The Pioneers open play at the 14th Annual UMBC Spring Classic Friday against Siena at 10:30 a.m. before facing the hosting Hawks at 12:45 p.m.
