Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 12, 2015)—Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) went 3-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and two RBI as the Sacred Heart softball team swept Wagner (4-3, 2-1) in Sunday's "Senior Day" doubleheader. The pair of wins improved the SHU to 9-20 on the season and 4-6 in Northeast Conference play.
With Nadler taking first on a walk, Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) blasted the game-winning double to the centerfield wall scoring the senior giving the Pioneers game 1 4-3. Nadler shined at the plate going 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.
Kacie Wenntworth (Canton, N.Y.) got the start in the first game. After giving up three runs on five hits in the first inning, she settled down allowing just four runs throughout the rest of the game while striking out five batters. The senior earned her third win of the season pitching a complete game.
The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Hannah Ford (New Fairfield, Conn.) led off the inning with a single through the left side before the McKaleigh Goodale got the next two batters out. With two down, Nadler came up hitting her second double of the game scoring the rookie before a fly-out ended the inning.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) worked Goodale for a walk. Next batter, Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, Calif.) laid down the ideal bunt beating out the throw at first to put runners on first and second for the Pioneers. Goodale got Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) to swing at the third pitch for the second out of the inning. Ford came up sending the ball to the warning track in left field. Maite Reece lineup under it but the ball bounced out of her allowing two runs to score tying the game at three and putting Ford on second.
The Pioneers struck first in the second game getting a run off two hits in the bottom of the first. Delgadillo led off the inning with a double to left centerfield and crossed home plate thanks to Jenn Robillard's (Plainville, Mass.) single.
The Seahawks came back to even the score in the top of the third. Kelsey Parker led off the inning with a single through the left side before Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the next two batters to swing at the third pitch for two of her seven strikeouts. Goodale worked a walk to move Parker over and then she was sent home by Brenda Bott's single to right field. Carlson silenced the Wagner bats from there allowing just two more hits throughout last four innings.
With her third triple of the day, Nadler drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Jessica Schild (East Northport, N.Y.) who pinch ran for Courtney Machamer (Williamstown, Pa.) after the junior singled to lead off the inning.
The Pioneers head to New Haven, Conn. for a doubleheader against Yale beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
