Box Score 2 SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 18, 2015)—Andrea Sidor went 3-for-6 at the plate with a RBI as the Sacred Heart softball team lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Northeast Conference foe Bryant. The 3-1 and 10-2 loss drop the Pioneers to 11-24 on the season and 4-8 against conference opponents.
Jamie Carlson pitched all six innings of the first game giving up Bryant's three runs on just four hits while collecting 11 strikeouts. With the Pioneers down 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Kelyn Fillmore hit her fourth homer of the season for SHU's lone run.
Junior Adrianna Mallory started the second game for the Pioneers, but was pulled after she gave up two runs in the first inning. SHU called upon Carlson again in the second inning, but the sophomore also wasn't effective against the Bryant lineup allowing five runs on four hits through two-thirds of the inning before Kacie Wentworth came in in relief. Wentworth gave up a hit to the first batter she faced, but got Robyn Ukegawa to fly out to left field to finally end the inning.
While Elle Madsen continued to hold the Pioneers scoreless, the Bulldogs picked up two more runs in the third and one in the fourth off Wentworth. With the result of a shortened game looming, the Sacred Heart bats finally came alive in the top of the fifth as Carina Zupa and Stephanie Appelberg led off the inning with back-to-back singles before Kate Nadler hit a double to left-centerfield driving home Jessica Schild, who pinch ran for Zupa. Hadsen got rookie Lauren Delgadillo to pop-out to shortstop before Sidor knocked a single through the right side scoring Appelberg, but that would be all the Pioneers would get as the next two batters grounded out ending the game.
Sacred Heart takes the field at Quinnipiac Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. before returning home for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness doubleheader against Manhattan on Wednesday.
