Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 28, 2015)—Down 3-0 in the second half, Christine Mace scored the Pioneers' lone goal in Thursday night's 4-1 loss to Columbia. The loss drops the Sacred Heart field hockey team to 2-6 on the season.
SHU wraps the non-conference slate Friday, Oct. 2 at Hofstra before opening a three-game homestand against MAAC foe Siena on Oct. 9.
First Half
- Less than two minutes into the game, Columbia's Christina Freibott stole the ball off the restart and fed Katie Ruesterholz, who score the first goal of the game
- The duo added another to the Lions score only this time it was Freibott who found the back of the cage in the 15th minute
- The Pioneers were outshot 15 to 3 in the first half with Mary Altepeter making five of her nine total saves in the half
Second Half
- Freibott found Taylor Mills open in front of the cage in the 44th minute improving Columbia's lead to 3-0
- In the game's 69th minute Mace put the Pioneers on the board. Receiving the long pass from Danielle Gallagher, Mace drove hard to the net getting the ball past Columbia goalkeeper Kimberly Pianicci for her second goal of the season
- The Lions tacked on one more goal in 70th minute of the game
