Box Score NEW HAVEN, CONN. (September 5, 2015)—The Sacred Heart field hockey team fell to Yale 2-1 in their second overtime game of the 2015 season to fall to 1-2.
The Bulldogs struck firsts scoring early in the game's tenth minute and maintained the one-goal lead until halftime. In the 44th minute, the Pioneers evened the score at one. Thanks to Mary Altepeter's three second-half saves, the game was sent into overtime.
With just over ten minutes remaining in the overtime period, Yale found the back of the cage ending the game at 2-1.
Overall, Yale outshot Sacred Heart 22-13, but the Pioneers continued to be accurate putting nine of their shots on goal.
SHU will play Cornell in a neutral setting at Albany Fri. Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. before Sunday's home-opener against Holy Cross at 1:00 p.m.
First Half:
- Yale sophomore Carol Middough scored her first goal of the season, and the first of the game in the tenth minute getting the pass from Katie Smith
- Altepeter made seven of her 11 saves in the first half
- The Pioneers took four corners, but were unable to score
Second Half:
- In the 44th minute, junior Danielle Gallagher tied the game with an unassisted goal
- The Bulldog offense threatened to end it in regulation putting three of their 10 second-half shots on goal, but Altepeter stopped all of them forcing SHU's second overtime game of the season
Overtime:
- Middough notched her second goal, the game-ender, getting the ball off a rebound in 80th minute
