Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After tight losses in the first two games of a three game series at Stephen F. Austin, the Pioneers ran out of steam in a 15-1 loss on Sunday afternoon at Jayceese Field.
Victor Sorrento was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits, going 2-4 with the lone RBI on a single in the first to finish the weekend 8-13 with seven RBI's. Jake Friar went 1-2 with two walks while Jesus Medina was 1-4 with a walk.
Medina's base on balls came with one out in the first. He then stole second before advancing to third. Sorrento brought him in with an infield single to give SHU the early lead.
It did not take Stephen F. Austin (5-3) to get the run back and more, as the Lumberjacks scored in the first inning for the third straight game. Matthew Dickey walked and Mathew Dickey laid down a bunt for a single before the two were sacrifice to second and third. Kyle Thronell tied the game with a single and moved up to second when Zach Michener walked to load the bases. Conner Fikes had the big base knock of the inning, singling to score two. Following an out, Slayton Vaughan capped the four-run first with a single up the middle.
Stephen F. Austin scored in seven of eight at-bats, the lone exception being the third inning. The Lumberjacks scored two runs in six of those eight innings, totaling 19 hits behind Kendrick's 4-4 performance. Garrett McMullen and Vaughan both added two as 13 Lumberjacks recorded at least one.
Patrick Ledet settled down after the opening inning, going six strong and scattering just five hits. Anthony Soriano, Austin Smith and Seth Campbell each threw an inning of scoreless relief.
The Pioneers return to the south next weekend for the first of seven more games, beginning with Louisiana Lafayette at 7 pm ET on Friday.
