PAWTUCKET, R.I. – A day after the Pioneers' offense was the key to victory, defense was the answer in a 3-1 victory over Johnson & Wales Saturday afternoon. The weekend sweep puts the Sacred Heart Women's ice hockey team back over .500 with a record of 11-10-2.

Taylor Moreland began the scoring for the second game in a row, beating Johnson & Wales netminder Kami Weiner just over one minute into the first period. Just like the previous evening, it was Casey Stathopoulos finding Moreland in the slot in front of the net for her 13^th assist of the season. The sophomore forward scored three goals in the series, and broke into double digits with ten total goals on the year.

Sacred Heart controlled the ice in front of the net, and pulled away with two goals in the final 3:23 of the second. Megan Finlay first scored on the power play with 16:37 gone in the period. The goal was Finlay's fifth of the season, and first on the power play, while Megan Ofner and Carly Radovich earned their second and fifth assists respectively. 

Less than three minutes later and with just 55 seconds on the clock, Amie Varano piled on with her second goal of the season. Finlay got her second point of the afternoon when she found Varano, who whipped it past Weiner from right in front of the net for the third and final Pioneer goal.

The lone Johnson & Wales goal came 2:49 into the third period on the man advantage. Alexis Harle scored just before the end of the opportunity, when she buried the rebound from a Caitlin Sweet shot. The wildcats would manage just four shots on net in the final 17:11.

The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team will look to push their current winning streak to four when they head on the road to take on Trinity Tuesday night.
