Wrestling Closes Home Slate Against Bucknell and Princeton

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart wrestling team closed the home portion of its 2015-16 season Sunday with a pair of dual matches against Bucknell and Princeton.

The Pioneers opened the day with a 39-0 loss to the Bucknell Bison. Sacred Heart had a rough going as they were unable to get anything going losing all ten matches against the Bison.

In the 125-pound match, it was a close all throughout the three periods. Petrov was up in the first period 4-2. Daley kept it close by getting a two point near fall in the second period. Petrov would get two takedowns and an escape in the final two periods to win the match 10-6 by decision. In the 133-pound match, Gonzalez would be in control in the first period up 6-1. Johnson would try to make a comeback and in the third period by getting a takedown and an escape but time run out for Johnson. Gonzalez finishes the match on top 9-5 by decision.

In the 157-pound match, Kelly was on top 4-1 in the first period. No action in the second but Mitchell picked it up the third and got an escape and a takedown. Unfortunately, it was too late for Mitchell to get more points as time expired and lost the match 5-3 by decision.

SHU got out to a 4-3 lead after two matches against Princeton in the nightcap. Tim Johnson led 6-0 against Noah Ajram in the 133-pound bout, getting a takedown and a four-point near fall. Johnson added another takedown in the third period to highlight an 11-2 major decision victory. The Tigers won the next eight matches, earning bonus points in seven of them, to take the dual 39-4.

The Pioneers are next in action at Bloomsburg on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.
