Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA (March 11, 2016)—The Sacred Heart softball team was held scoreless by Rhode Island Friday in the opening game of the Liberty Softball Classic at Kamphuis Field at the Liberty University Softball Stadium. Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 accounting for two of SHU's seven hits as the Pioneers fell 3-0. The loss drops Sacred Heart to 4-10 on the season.
The Pioneers put runners on base in all but two innings, and left four runners in scoring position as they were unable to push a run across.
Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) gave up all three runs to the Rams in the first four innings. In the third, URI pushed two across on three hits and got one unearned run in the top of the fourth.
Rookie pitcher Emily Orosco (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) came in to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out two batters along the way.
SHU is back in action tomorrow against Norfolk State and Liberty.
