Box Score Boston, MA (March 24, 2016) – The Sacred Heart softball team rallied from down four runs but fell short to Boston University 6-5 in nine innings.
The Pioneers couldn't get the offense going early on and fell behind four runs before a Stephanie Appelberg (Monroe, CT) grand slam tied the game in the sixth inning. Sacred Heart was able to grab a short-lived lead in the eighth on a Dani Warnken (Bayport, NY) RBI single, but BU was able to tie it. After being held scoreless in the ninth, the Terriers were able to get the walk-off win on a fielder's choice.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday morning as they travel to Manhattan College for a doubleheader with the Jaspers. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- BU got on the board in the third with a run after Jilee Schanda tripled to lead off the inning and then scored on a fielder's choice by Lauren Hynes
- The Terries scored two more in the fourth on three hits
- BU then made it 4-0 when Gabi Martinez hit a lead off single, went to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Emma Wong single
- Appelberg tied it up with one swing of the bat when she hit a grand slam in the sixth
- Warnken hit an RBI single in the eighth to put the Pioneers on top
- BU tied it in the bottom half of the eighth on a single by Alex Heinen that scored Wong
- After the Pioneers stranded a runner on third in the top half of the ninth, the Terriers walked off with a Martinez fielder's choice that scored Emily Morrow
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Appelberg hit a sixth inning grand slam to tie the game at 4-4
- Warnken hit a RBI single in the eighth
- Appelberg was the only Pioneer with a multi-hit game
FOR THE FOES:
- Jilee Schanda and Gabi Martinez led the Terriers with two hits apiece
- Makinna Akers came on and pitched three innings of relief to pick up the win for BU
