Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. (March 5, 2016) – The Sacred Heart softball team dropped both games Friday as they started their weekend in the Rebel Games tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. Sacred Heart lost their first game to Creighton by a score of 4-1 and then fell to Akron 3-2.
In game one, sophomore Fallon Bevino (Milford, CT) got the Pioneers on top early with a solo homerun in the second inning, but that was all the Pioneers could get going offensively as they dropped their first game at the Rebel Games tournament to Creighton 4-1. Jamie Carlson (Corona, CA) struck out seven batters over seven innings, but got the loss. Sacred Heart had their sixth inning comeback ruined when Creighton pitcher Sydney Eck got Linsey DeDomenico (Northford, CT) to pop out with the bases load.
Against Akron in game two, freshman Hailey Desrosiers (Cypress, CA) knocked her first collegiate homer to give SHU an early lead. Pitcher Emily Orosco (Camarillo, CA) had another strong outing picking up eight Ks, but Akron got two runs on six hits off the rookie. Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) picked up the loss for Sacred Heart after coming on to pitch in the seventh and giving up a walk-off two-run double to Taylor Kirian.
The Pioneers continue play in the Rebel Games tomorrow afternoon as they face Niagara and Holy Cross. Game one is set for 1:30 PM.
