Fairfield, Conn. (April 16, 2016) – The Sacred Heart softball team lost a pair of conference games Saturday afternoon to Saint Francis University by scores of 6-1 and 11-2.

In game one, Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) pitched a gem of a game, but couldn't get any run support as she gave up four hits and five runs (three unearned) to get the loss. Stolen bases and pass balls were the keys to success for the Red Flash as they broke the scoreless tie in the third when Kindra Witthus walked, stole second, advanced on a sac fly, then scored on a pass ball. The Red Flash got another run in the fifth off of a pass ball to make it 2-0 before putting up three more in the sixth and another insurance run in the seventh. The Pioneers got their lone run of the game when Victoria D'Addario (Lincoln Park, N.J.) scored on a sac fly by Chloe Weeks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.).

In game two, Saint Francis able to get to starter Kristen McCann (Phoenix, Ariz.) early and often as they put up two runs in each of the first two innings before she was relieved by Emily Orosco (Camarillo, Calif.), who pitched four innings giving up just one run before Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) came on in the seventh and gave up six to SFU.

GAME 1: SACRED HEART vs. SAINT FRANCIS U

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Witthus walked in the top of the third before stealing second, reaching third on a fly out, and scoring on a pass ball 
• Kate Blattenberger pinch ran for Melanie Martire after she walked and stole second and third before scoring on a pass ball
• The Red Flash put up three more in the sixth when Hayley Norton scored on a Madison Cabell single and then Kelsie Marconi and Jordan Seneca scored on a two-run double by Martire
• SFU made it 6-0 in the seventh when Sierra McKee hit a solo homerun to left field
• The Pioneers got on the board in the seventh when D'Addario scored on a Chloe Weeks sac fly

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Carlson had eight strikeouts to lead the Pioneers
• Weeks had the lone RBI

FOR THE FOES:

• Ethel Santai had seven strikeouts for the Red Flash
• McKee hit a solo homerun in the seventh
• Martire led SFU with two RBI and a double

GAME 2: SACRED HEART vs. SAINT FRANCIS U

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Jordan Seneca hit a two-run single in the first scoring Sierra McKee and Norton to make it 2-0 early
• Sierra McKee hit a sac fly to score Witthus in the top of the second to make it 3-0
• Norton singled through the right side after that to score Cheyenne McKee to make it 4-0 after two innings
• Fallon Bevino (Milford, Conn.) scored on a McKenna Wiegand (Gilbert, Ariz.) sac fly in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-1
• Lauren Delgadillo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) singled home Jessica Dubbioso (North Salem, N.Y.) to make it 4-2 after four innings
• Norton hit an RBI ground-rule double to score Witthus and make it 5-2 after six innings
• In the seventh, Seneca scored on a passed ball, Marconi scored on an error, Kassidy Troxell scored on a fielder's choice, Witthus and Sierra McKee scored on a two-run Hayley Norton, and Hayley Norton scored on an error to make it 11-2

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Delgadilo led the Pioneers with two hits
• Orosco struckout six in her four innings of relief

• Blaire Lauthers and Ketarah DeVries combined to pitch a four-hitter in the circle to silence the Pioneer bats
